We all have moments that test us—situations where our values clash with external pressures, people or process, and we feel the pull of compromise.
I’ve had my fair share of these moments, and I’ve learned that while ego may rise to the occasion, my moral compass always finds its way back to true north.
Recently I had two exmaples that while on the surface would not seem like a major issue, both these suituations relaly started to press up against my compass. They compromised my values of integrity, ethics, people and what is morally right. Treat others as you want to be treated is a foundaiton of how I act.
It would have been easy to just go with the flow, leave it, don't raise it - however the fire inside me as this pushed agisnst my compass, burned solid. Would there be consequences to raising this - Absolutely, however when you're foundated in doing good for people and customers - It's not a hard choice, even if I faced unpopularity and being ostracized.
At first, my ego whispered just folow the pack, this would be a pathway of least resistance, the easy way. It would also mean keeping the peace, It would be the popular thing to do, it may get you in the good books, Why cause youself the hassle of starying true. Keep your head down for fear of being unpopular.
But then, like a firm slap in the face, my compass snapped back.
I took a step back and asked myself: If I go through with this, can I stand by my decision with conviction? Will I still feel proud of the leader I am becoming?, is this who you asipre to be, Is this the culture you want to be in ?
The answer was clear. So, I spoke up. I shared my throughts, not out of defiance, but out of a responsibility to uphold what I believed was right. It wasn’t easy. Actually it was F#^King hard. But when the dust settled, I knew I had made the right call. And more importantly, I had reinforced the foundation I stand on.
Testing times are inevitable. Ego will always have its moment. But integrity is what endures. And when you let your moral compass lead, you never lose your way.
That is the legacy I wish to leave in this world. I know it benefits people and the fantastic outcomes of that are a very successful busueinss and community.
